At the Álava Psychology Center, a study has been carried out to find out what was the main demand for which families came to the center in the child-adolescent area.

The study has been based on 515 cases analyzed. And the results reveal that the main reason for the demand was behavioral problems, followed by learning difficulties, and anxiety problems, and lack of social skills.

1st. The first place is occupied by behavior problems. These are usually children who find it difficult to internalize the rules and limits, find it difficult to obey, question authority, challenge parents ... and these are often overwhelmed by the situation, and see that they need help to solve the problem, or they consider that there has to be an easier way to achieve good daily functioning.

In these situations, the emotional exhaustion, both for parents and children, is very strong. Therefore, it is advisable to carry out family therapy, both with the parents (who are guided, they are told how to handle the situation, with clear and precise guidelines); as with children, teaching them skills and strategies for emotional self-control.

2nd. The second reason for the demand for consultation is learning difficulties. Children who do not do well in school, who have trouble studying, or who have attention difficulties. In these cases, it is necessary to carry out an in-depth evaluation of the difficulties they have, to know what their strengths are, in which processes they have difficulties, in order to establish a correct diagnosis, and to set a specific learning re-education program for each child.

3rd. The third reason for demand in the child-youth area is the anxiety problems. Although this problem is more common reaching adolescence, the number of younger children who come for this reason is also high. They may be children who are very nervous about exams, who have little self-control, low tolerance for frustration ... or who are experiencing complicated situations such as divorce, problems with colleagues, family problems ...

In these cases, you have to work with the children training emotional management, so that they learn to manage their emotions, and control their anxiety. But also with parents, so that they know how to help their children in these situations.

4th. The fourth reason for demand is training in social skills. It is usually treated both children and adolescents who are especially shy and insecure who find it difficult to relate to others, and who need training in this regard.

Other frequent reasons are enuresis (children who pee on the bed), children with low self-esteem and very insecure, who must be given security and increase their self-esteem; phobia and fear problems, sleep problems such as nightmares, night terrors ... or jealousy. Jealousy problems do not occur only when children are young, in many cases they continue into adolescence, and although with age the way of expressing said jealousy changes, the basis is usually a competition with siblings for the attention of parents.

Write smoothly, well done, but I still can't do that, the text somehow comes out clumsily from the pen :) I think this will be corrected over time.
